The cruise terminals are about 8 miles (25 mins) from Miami International Airport (MIA) and 25 miles (45 mins) from Fort Lauderdale Airport (FLL). PortMiami's cruise terminals -- among the most modern in the world -- have been designed to quickly move passengers from land to sea. Drive-in passengers can opt for convenient on-port parking with special arrangements for travelers with disabilities. For those arriving by taxi, shuttle bus or limousine, drop off is directly in front of each terminal and entryways are designed for a quick and easy check-in and boarding process. The project was officially approved on April 10th, and works started on May 1st, with planned completion in Fall 2019. Taxis from Miami International Airport are readily available on days when ships are embarking or disembarking passengers. All taxis between Miami International Airport and PortMiami carries a flat rate. Passengers on cruises departing from PortMiami can fly into Miami International Airport or Fort Lauderdale International Airport. In July 2018, Miami-Dade County and MSC signed an agreement for extended preferential berthing rights and MoU for building a new "Cruise Terminal AAA" at PortMiami (company's exclusive homeport in the USA). Carnival Terminal F's renovations officially started on January 29, 2021 (with the groundbreaking ceremony) and are scheduled for completion by October 2022. Terminal F's groundbreaking was attended by Christine Duffy (CCL's President) and Daniella Levine Cava (Miami-Dade Mayor), along with construction companies representatives and county commissioners.
